Can you believe how close we are to Thanksgiving? It is truly the yummiest of holidays. While we all look forward to the food, the great company, and time of thanks, we still tend to get a bit overwhelmed by it all. Entertaining during the holiday season is my favorite, and I tend to keep it cool when the house is flooded with guests. I’m antsy to keep the place as tidy as possible, but I still think I keep it cool. Today I’m sharing 5 ways to prep for Thanksgiving entertaining, some you might be practicing often and others you might not have considered. Grab the details below!
- Switch out wall art to seasonal art instead of adding more to the walls.
A clutter free home is the bee’s knees in my opinion. Many of us see an adorable sign that would be perfect for Thanksgiving entertaining and add it to the already present wall decor. Things get cluttered this way, friends. Just during the season (or just while you’re serving Thanksgiving dinner) switch out some wall decor pieces for the new seasonal ones you’ve purchased. Don’t let the walls become a distraction.
- Prep the baking as much as possible
Baking is my favorite thing to do in the kitchen, but it can take up some time. Prep the baking supplies as much as possible. Have your mixer ready to go as well as the essentials- flour, sugar, vanilla, chocolate, etc. I keep my baking essentials in large containers so I’m not opening bags while baking, I can just simply measure and pour. Have the recipe close by so you’re not digging, too. Prepping can allow you to enjoy a bit more family time while you bake instead of yelling for someone to help you find something.
- Have a cleaning basket on hand at all times
While it seems impossible to keep your home clean when it’s filled with guests, it is possible to have it clean before they arrive and have items on hand for little oops moments. I prefer to clean as I go even if it only takes seconds to do so. Arm yourself with a sense of humor and the tools you need to handle anything the holiday season throws at you. Thankfully, the S.C. Johnson brand purpose is to help yours prepare for… Whatever.
A few items I have on hand in my cleaning basket are: Pledge® Spray Antibacterial, Windex® Glass Cleaner, and Glade® Apple Cinnamon Room Spray.
Below is a photo of where you can find these items and more at your local Home Depot.
After guests leave, I tackle the mirrors and the bathroom with Windex® and having it on hand for those fun kid smudges is wise too. Pledge® protects my favorite home items, so it’s a must. I am always buying Glade® items because the smell is fantastic around the house. Visit S.C. Johnson website here and here for Thanksgiving entertaining tips and more!
- 15 minute clean sweep and candles
15 minutes before guests arrive I do a quick sweep. I pick up the toys that have been scattered around the house, straighten up the pillows on the couch, make sure the kitchen had one last wipe down, and light candles in appropriate and safe places. Insert Glade® Apple Cinnamon Candles. The apple cinnamon candles are the perfect scent of the season and a fantastic way to welcome your guests with a surprising burst of joy.
- Take a deep breath
This is family and the closest of friends coming over to enjoy the holiday with you, so take a deep breath and relax. You’ve been armed with a cleaning baskets for any incident, you’re prepped for baking, your home looks and smells lovely and you’ve switched out some wall decor to add touches of the season. Bam! You are ready to play hostess with the mostess, friend. Try not to sweat the small things and remember to give thanks as you gather around the table… or kitchen… or living area. wink.
