A few weekends ago we celebrated the husband! He recently graduated from the University of Central Florida’s college of engineering! My smarty pants husband is officially a civil engineer and I am so very proud. College is hard work, engineering is ridiculously hard work. When we decided to make the move to central Florida a few years ago for him to return to college I knew this day would come, but I still can’t believe it’s here.
In honor of this major accomplishment our families hosted a graduation celebration. I whipped up some DIY decor along with help from the family and we had a blast celebrating. Florida’s weather during the summer months is always unpredictable. We had tents ready for an outdoor backyard celebration and then the rain came. We didn’t let it get us down, we moved the celebration inside and had a blast.
These are true in the moment party photos and not my tradition styled photos. It feels good to share a party that isn’t styled from time to time. Enjoy these “real” party pics.
Most of the graduation celebration consisted of UCF colors, black and gold. Lucky for me it was easy to find (and create) black and gold decor items. My sister has the best handwriting so I had her write congrats with a chalk marker on a black board. This sign will get many uses I’m sure.
We crack smarty pants engineering jokes regularly so it was only fitting that I created these signs for the dessert table. They were a hit and so was the custom cake. Everyone was so blown away by the custom chocolate covered Oreos they were afraid to take one. That means you did a good job, Maria. wink.
The cake details were so awesome! You’ll see a calculator, pencil, protractor, blue prints and a water drainage system as the base. The local baker and restaurant owner did a great job capturing so much on one cake. It was delicious too! The top was a chocolate cake and the bottom a vanilla.
The parents supplied amazing food. We were loaded up with pulled pork, chicken, mac & cheese, baked beans, fruit platter, veggie platter and more… pretty much the perfect party meal.
The photo booth was my favorite part of the party. This fun UCF-ish fabric I picked up at Hobby Lobby and I dressed it up with balloons. I came up with some fun and witty signs that our family and friends loved. I’m sharing a few photo booth prop pics, but I’ll spared you from the really silly ones. You can find one of the really silly ones on my Instagram page.
My sister thought it was hilarious I created a proud wife sign being that it was only for my use, she had a little fun with it in the photo below. She also represented her brother in laws school with her super cute attire.
When the rain decided to give us a little break the friends ran outside for a quick game of corn hole. A few weeks prior to the party my husband and dad created custom corn hole boards and they rock! I’ll be sharing a full how-to for these Transformers themed corn hole boards later this week. The parents went with UF boards… the husband and I are FSU fans so we don’t really have to discuss their choice. wink.
The party might have been rained out, but we made it work and had a great celebration. It was a perfect graduation celebration to honor my most favorite person. Congrats to the UCF graduate! I’m one proud wife.
Our family is excited to attend UCF games and events as alumni. Go Knights!
